Rock Chick at Squatters Place
Rock Chick at Squatters Place
Published by the Schizophrenia Fellowship of NSW in the 2013 Annual Poetry Journal
Wearing a bandanna with her guitar named ‘Cherub’
we played drinking games
The single mum who once yelled at me
for touching her fertility statue
Took me aside at work one day
as we planted trees in land conservation and restoration
telling me I needed a doctor
“Dickie, I think you’re sick,”
she told me.
“I think you have Schizophrenia.”
Even though I didn’t believe the rock chick at the time
I still value her words as she tried to help me
Remembering the stolen street sign
out the front of her house that read ‘Squatters Place.’
